{"id":1013,"date":"2012-04-11T19:03:07","date_gmt":"2012-04-12T00:03:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jenniferlinnig.com\/wordpress\/?p=1013"},"modified":"2012-04-11T18:11:02","modified_gmt":"2012-04-11T23:11:02","slug":"keeping-your-car-organized","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.jenniferlinnig.com\/wordpress\/2012\/04\/keeping-your-car-organized\/","title":{"rendered":"Keeping Your Car Organized"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the time I started driving for quite a while longer my car collected various things.\u00a0 Eventually I would spend some time just getting it emptied out once it got bad enough.\u00a0 Then there came a time that the car would still get a little cluttered, yet it never required hours of work to get it cleaned up.\u00a0 It\u2019s easy for our cars to collect things \u2013 we\u2019re in and out of them regularly.<\/p>\n<p>As with so much with getting and staying organized, how we handle our cars depends on how you want to do it.\u00a0 If you are one of the people whose cars collects things and then you eventually set aside some time to deal with \u2013 and don\u2019t want to change that \u2013 no problem.\u00a0 You choose how you want to handle your space and things.<\/p>\n<p>Then, there some steps you can take to handle it differently.\u00a0 You don\u2019t even need to begin the following steps with a clean car; you can begin these from however your car is right now.\u00a0 We are in and out of our cars often, and there\u2019s things we can do with our efforts to keep our cars organized.<\/p>\n<p>Most of us completely empty the cars of our groceries after shopping.\u00a0 If we use this philosophy with everything else, we can maintain our car.\u00a0 Each time you get out of your car, you take a load to where it needs to go. \u00a0You can take just one load even, and if you do that regularly, your car will rarely collect much clutter. \u00a0If you have trash \u2013 you grab as much as you can and drop it in the nearest receptacle each time you get out of your car.\u00a0 If you are heading into a store, there are usually trashcans by the front door \u2013 use those.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes getting gas can feel like a chore.\u00a0 This is another great time to spend a little time emptying stuff from the car.\u00a0 There\u2019s usually a trashcan right by the gas pump, and you\u2019d be amazed by how much you can get done just while your car is getting filled up.\u00a0 If you tend to procrastinate getting gas, try to curb that and work at getting gas on your way home since you\u2019re likely to feel less rushed.\u00a0 It might also lessen any resistance you feel toward using that time to clear out the trash.\u00a0 You can also gather the other things that need to go into the house while the gas tank is getting filled \u2013 make it easier to grab the things when you head inside.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve used different techniques over the years for trying to keep the car organized.\u00a0 For a while I kept plastic bags in the car for collecting trash and recycling and when those got full would take them out.\u00a0 I discovered that I would procrastinate emptying them though until they were overflowing.\u00a0 I now keep a reusable bag in case I need it, though I\u2019ve not used it yet.<\/p>\n<p>The habit of each time I left the car I would take at least one load to its place has been the easiest for me.\u00a0 My procrastination habits interfere the least with this.\u00a0 It also never feels like a chore\u2026 \u00a0well, almost never.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 In my case, it\u2019s also now minor stuff and not something I have to do each time \u2013 just when I have something for the trash or recycling.<\/p>\n<p>For the various things that I want to keep in the car, and it\u2019s gotten less over the years \u2013 I tend to look for ways to contain them.\u00a0 Before containers, the stuff would slide all around and look messier than it was.\u00a0 When you\u2019re driving kids around, it can be even more of a challenge.\u00a0 I encourage you to enlist the children to help, they can return things to where they belong and even help carry things into the house.<\/p>\n<p>As with probably everything about organizing \u2013 it requires some discipline and developing habits.\u00a0 How do you want things to be?\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t have to require lots of time or energy, though it might in the beginning.\u00a0 Once you\u2019ve established your routines, it can become easy.\u00a0 Decide for yourself how you want your car to look and take steps to get it there and then keep it there.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Getting your car organized and then keeping it organized can feel like a lot of work, especially if you have kids.
