{"id":1223,"date":"2012-10-24T19:03:31","date_gmt":"2012-10-25T00:03:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jenniferlinnig.com\/wordpress\/?p=1223"},"modified":"2012-10-24T11:39:36","modified_gmt":"2012-10-24T16:39:36","slug":"envisioning-your-space","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.jenniferlinnig.com\/wordpress\/2012\/10\/envisioning-your-space\/","title":{"rendered":"Envisioning Your Space"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you are looking at reclaiming your life and your space, it\u2019s important to begin thinking about how your space will be.\u00a0 Sometimes this can be challenging for people, how can they imagine anything past what they are currently dealing with.\u00a0 Yet, this relates to goals \u2013 what are your goals for your space?\u00a0 What do you want to get out of being more organized \u2013 and more than finding things easily?<\/p>\n<p>We all have different visions for our spaces, if you can imagine it at all.\u00a0 There are many different ways a space can look and feel.\u00a0 Beyond the decorating scheme, the way you arrange furniture and use d\u00e9cor can influence how the room feels. \u00a0\u00a0Consider how your partner feels about things as well, as what feels good for you might be the opposite for them.<\/p>\n<p>The first step often is identifying how you want to feel in your space \u2013 relaxed, comfortable, serene, energized, etc.\u00a0 Obviously, you probably won\u2019t want to feel the same way in every room, especially if you\u2019re looking to feel energized which wouldn\u2019t be conducive to a restful night of sleep.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve figured out how you want to feel, you can move on to discovering what that means for you personally.\u00a0 What does relaxed look like to you?\u00a0 What makes something relaxing for you?\u00a0 How is relaxed expressed for you?\u00a0 This means thinking outside your current space and in more general terms.<\/p>\n<p>I want to feel enveloped in my space.\u00a0 I\u2019ve begun to think of it as a nest \u2013 my home is a place that surrounds me with love and beauty.\u00a0 This vision isn\u2019t immutable; it shifts and changes.\u00a0 I had at least one shelf in every room for a while, yet this began to feel more like clutter \u2013 a place to put more stuff.\u00a0 These came down, pictures go up, and the d\u00e9cor either gets rearranged, saved, or donated.\u00a0 Yet, as I look around and change things, my home is still my nest.<\/p>\n<p>Consider these two extremes: the house full of knick-knacks and the sparse and immaculate house.\u00a0 Both of these can be relaxing to someone \u2013 although not likely the same person.\u00a0\u00a0 Neither is wrong.\u00a0 Really.\u00a0 I do encourage people to avoid either of these extremes and find the way it feels good for them.<\/p>\n<p>What feels like \u201chome\u201d?\u00a0 What feels comfortable?\u00a0 What is realistic for you and your family?\u00a0 Maybe the sparse and immaculate home sounds ideal, yet is this reasonable for your life?\u00a0 And there\u2019s time for hard choices \u2013 I have a room that feels too crowded.\u00a0 For the size of the room and what I use it for, there\u2019s no room for anything more.\u00a0 I recognize this, yet I\u2019ve evaluated the different pieces and I am not willing to part with things right now.<\/p>\n<p>We all need goals to help direct our efforts.\u00a0 When tackling major organizing projects or simply revamping a space, consider your own vision of how you want the space to feel.\u00a0 Then, how do you set things up to create that effect?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What home looks and feels like to each of us is different.
