{"id":1709,"date":"2014-02-19T20:03:51","date_gmt":"2014-02-20T02:03:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jenniferlinnig.com\/wordpress\/?p=1709"},"modified":"2014-02-19T18:04:28","modified_gmt":"2014-02-20T00:04:28","slug":"time-to-make-progress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.jenniferlinnig.com\/wordpress\/2014\/02\/time-to-make-progress\/","title":{"rendered":"Time to Make Progress?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Working on your organization and systems means you are making changes \u2013 or at least trying to.\u00a0 Meanwhile it\u2019s likely the rest of your life didn\u2019t come to halt simply because you\u2019re determined to make progress.\u00a0 (Even if it did, you might not be exempt from challenges! :o)\u00a0 Each day we deal with any number of things and they affect us \u2013 physically, emotionally, and psychologically.\u00a0 And how we\u2019re each affected has countless variations and is further influenced by any number of factors, both those we\u2019re aware of and ones we\u2019re blind to.\u00a0 This is life.\u00a0 When you\u2019re motivated to focus on organizing and your systems, it\u2019s important to consider how the timing corresponds with other factors in your life.<\/p>\n<p>When you are dealing with physical, mental, emotional challenges, making changes in your life can be that much harder.\u00a0 It might even be that you need to wait to attempt changes until these things are under control \u2013 or potentially stable.\u00a0 At the very least, limit your efforts to working on small changes and set aside bigger changes for the future.<\/p>\n<p>Even when there are no outside complicating factors, besides normal life, it can be easier to begin with smaller steps.\u00a0 Whether this is the time for you to focus on making progress or it\u2019s better to wait, you can continue to be curious \u2013 observing that this endeavor or that family obligation is so time and energy consuming which can help show you how much you can handle at a given moment \u2013 after all, we all have our limits.<\/p>\n<p>The time and energy we have to focus on making changes also has a dramatic impact on our progress.\u00a0 Are we realistic about the time and energy it will take for these changes to occur?\u00a0 Again, consider whether it is practical for you to focus on these things or would it serve you better to postpone it for a while.<\/p>\n<p>Where does this specific change fall among the priorities of your life?\u00a0 It can feel like it \u201cshould\u201d be the highest, or needs to be.\u00a0 Yet, even if it <i>needs<\/i> to be high on your list, that doesn\u2019t automatically transform it into the thing you focus on most.\u00a0 (If you say it needs to be high, consider what are the factors that define it as a need as compared to a want.)<\/p>\n<p>Maybe you just really want it to be a high priority.\u00a0 Therefore, what is getting in the way of raising it up?\u00a0 Sometimes it might be as \u201csimple\u201d as setting boundaries with other people \u2013 learning to say, no, to both the outside obligations as well as to distractions.<\/p>\n<p>Other times it might not be the time for it to be as high as you want.\u00a0 This means that you make it a priority for it to be raised as other things move out of the way \u2013 and maybe organically it becomes a higher priority in your life.\u00a0 Someone in the midst of health issues might not focus on making changes, yet once that is managed, working on getting the kitchen organized moves up the list \u2013 becoming a more reasonable change.<\/p>\n<p>It can be extremely frustrating when your motivation for focusing on this one thing doesn\u2019t align well with other parts of your life.\u00a0 And you can decide to focus on them anyway.\u00a0 I only want to urge you to simply consider these factors before adding more to your shoulders:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Physical, mental, or emotional challenges \u2013 your own or someone dear to you<\/li>\n<li>Your time and energy<\/li>\n<li>The realistic priority in this moment, for you<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Only you can decide whether the timing is suitable for you to focus on organization and your systems.\u00a0 The idea of \u201cdo it now\u201d might be appropriate; yet it\u2019s just as possible that doing it now would be counter-productive.\u00a0 Deciding to wait \u2013 recognizing that it\u2019s unrealistic in this moment to spend your energy this way \u2013 can be a demonstration of wisdom.\u00a0\u00a0 So, how is the timing aligning with the other factors of your life?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You might be inspired to focus on making changes \u2013 organizing and systems \u2013 yet, your motivation is only one of several factors to consider before jumping into action.
