{"id":714,"date":"2011-10-26T19:03:09","date_gmt":"2011-10-27T00:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jenniferlinnig.com\/wordpress\/?p=714"},"modified":"2011-10-26T14:52:27","modified_gmt":"2011-10-26T19:52:27","slug":"negativity-nip-it-in-the-bud-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.jenniferlinnig.com\/wordpress\/2011\/10\/negativity-nip-it-in-the-bud-now\/","title":{"rendered":"Negativity \u2013 Nip it in the Bud Now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few weeks ago, I found myself leaving some client\u2019s homes feeling very frustrated.\u00a0 I realize most of you don\u2019t know me, yet this is not typical.\u00a0 To make matters even more interesting, it wasn\u2019t about the clients. No, really it wasn\u2019t.\u00a0 It was actually about the family members I had been interacting with for a couple of moments here or there.\u00a0 Part of me wanted to absolutely scream at them! Sometimes wishing I could shake them \u2013 jostle some compassion into them.<\/p>\n<p>It also had me wanting to grab and squeeze my clients, hoping I could through osmosis make them not believe the negativity.\u00a0 I know how challenging it can be to contradict the negativity of others. \u00a0Especially when they come from someone you love.\u00a0 My frustration was coming from seeing the insensitivity to my client.\u00a0 How pointless to comment on how \u201ceasy\u201d or \u201csimple\u201d this should be \u2013 at least according to them, and not considering the client\u2019s struggles or even that they\u2019ve asked for help.\u00a0 That\u2019s why I am there after all (and hearing the comments).<\/p>\n<p>Many people have different ways of approaching the same thing \u2013 while the end goal is relatively the same.\u00a0 Often the struggles of getting to that place can be overwhelming.\u00a0 Every person I work with has beautiful strengths, as well as the requisite challenges (this is called being human) and follows his or her own process.\u00a0 They work at different speeds and make progress in different ways.<\/p>\n<p>Can you allow this for yourself?\u00a0 Can you have the strength to be whom you are and where you are at without negativity filling you?<\/p>\n<p>The family members aren\u2019t always the ones being critical.\u00a0 Often it is the client themselves, beating themselves up.\u00a0 Labeling themselves as this or that; at least this I can try to address directly.\u00a0 Negativity rarely serves any of us well.\u00a0 How often does it help you tackle that project?\u00a0 Or think outside the box to come up with a different solution to this struggle?<\/p>\n<p>I truly wish that organizing could be easier \u2013 and easy for everyone.\u00a0 Just imagine the way our quality of life would improve! Also, frustration does often seem to come from love and the feeling of helplessness \u2013 the inability to help make a difference.\u00a0 In the meantime, stop the negativity \u2013 whether from yourself or from listening to it from others. There\u2019s no easy answer to this, yet beginning to be aware of it and contradicting it.\u00a0 Discover your strengths and remind yourself of these.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hearing negative, critical comments from others puts a serious burr in my saddle \u2013 especially when it\u2019s not something I can address directly.
